SUMMARY:Resilient Reading Group Feb 24
DESCRIPTION:We humans\, and the rest of the planet\, exist in a tightly bound web of interconnections. These intersections are both our solution/salvation—it will take each and everyone of us working together to create a better world—and paradoxically it’s also these tightly bound systems that  are also causing the challenging conditions—droughts\, wildfires\, heat waves\, human migrations\, extreme weather\, biodiversity loss\, ocean acidification\, etc.— of our our current climate-changed world. \nIf you’d like to get a better understanding of these interconnections\, meet other curious and engaged Midcoast residents\, and find ways to not only remain resilient during the upcoming decades\, CamdenCAN would like to invite you to join us for our Resilient Reading Group. \nThe reading group meets on second and fourth Tuesday afternoons\, 4:00 – 5:00 PM at Camden Public Library in the Picker Room. If you have questions or would like to participate\, please email camdencan2025@gmail.com. \nThe ultimate goal of these book discussions is to inform as well as expand one another’s understandings of the moment we are living in. One of the greatest actions to take to improve our current situation is to talk about it\, as well as forge new alliances and build community. Come join us—let’s see what we can do to thrive in these challenging times. \nWe’ll be selecting our next reading book at our upcoming meeting.

SUMMARY:Winter Warmth Potluck
DESCRIPTION:CamdenCAN\, in association with the Anti-Poverty Work Group\, are hosting a Winter Warmth Potluck at Camden’s First Congregational Church in Camden from 530 to 8 pm on Thursday\, January 29. We’re holding the event to celebrate the warmth and wonder of old friends and new\, hoping we can spread the joy of living here in midcoast Maine. Folks from CamdenCAN and the Anti-Poverty Work Group will be on hand to talk of current projects and solicit ideas for future activities. There’s lots of work to be done to improve our community—come join us to help decide our mutual ways forward. We’ll have informal conversations about climate instability\, ways we can help one another reduce energy/electricity costs\, and tighten our communal bonds via neighborhood pods. The potluck is free and open to all. If you’d like to bring a dish to share that would be great—you don’t have to sign up to do so\, but if you’d like to sign up to do so follow this link: https://www.PerfectPotluck.com/ELRY9677. If you’d like more information about the event email camdencan2025@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Resilient Reading Group--Life After Doom\, Final Chat
DESCRIPTION:The second book in CamdenCAN’s Fall/Winter reading series is Life After Doom: Wisdom and Courage for a World Falling Apart/Brian D. McLaren. Far from an apocalyptic nightmare\, this work\, written by a former English professor and pastor\, offers a life-affirming approach to living in difficult times. “Life After Doom is for everyone who has reached a point where not facing their unpeaceful\, uneasy\, unwanted feelings about the future has become more draining than facing them. It’s for anyone who understands that we’ve entered a dangerous time and we need to prepare ourselves to face that danger with wisdom\, courage\, character\, and compassion.” \nOur 1/27/26 meeting will be the last on Life After Doom\, and we will also be deciding if we will continue on with other books for late winter and spring. Come join us to decide our way forward.
