Food Garden Tour-2025

On Friday, September 5 and Sunday, September 7, our Food Garden Tour will showcase 11 inspiring local gardens and farms.

🌿 CamdenCAN’s Second Annual Food Garden Tour – Sept 5 & 7, 2025 🌿

11 Gardens. Nearly 100 Visitors Signed Up. One Community Growing Together.

CamdenCAN (Climate Action Now) is all about getting our town talking, thinking, and acting on the big changes in our climate — and what we can do, right here, to meet those challenges. One of the most delicious and rewarding ways to act is to grow food locally — in our backyards, balconies, community plots, and even in unexpected corners.

On Friday, September 5 and Sunday, September 7, our Food Garden Tour will showcase 11 inspiring local gardens and farms. These are spaces where neighbors have rolled up their sleeves and turned soil, pots, hay bales, and even raised furniture beds into productive oases.  You’ll see:

  • Neatly organized rows and wild, playful patches
  • Fruit gardens bursting with flavor
  • Mixed flower-and-vegetable plots buzzing with pollinators
  • Sunny and shady spots cleverly adapted for growing
  • On-street plantings and hidden back garden gems
  • Cooperative and community plots where many hands share the harvest
  • ScrapDog Compost Demonstration at Beedy’s place.

Some gardens open mornings only, some afternoons, and some all day — plus, a rich, established forest homestead offering a full weekend tour.

🌿 Why this matters:

Growing food is getting harder everywhere — droughts, floods, wild temperature swings, high winds — all putting crops at risk from Maine to Malawi. Farmers large and small are struggling, and the effects are showing up at the grocery store. Learning to grow even a little of our own food is a skill worth having — one that takes time to build and must adapt to the unpredictable seasons ahead.

Seeing what others are doing in Camden and Rockport can spark ideas, encourage new growers, and strengthen our local climate resilience. Plus… let’s face it… visiting gardens and talking about gardens is just plain fun.

🌿 How to join:

To protect the privacy of our gardeners, you’ll need to register at camdencan.org on the Food Garden Tour page to get your interactive map & garden list. Once you sign up, you’ll receive a password to unlock the tour details.

🌿 Thinking ahead?

If you’d like to add your garden to the tour for 2026 — whether it’s a windowsill herb collection, a backyard food forest, or a community plot — just let us know when you register. Every garden, from home patches to family farms, strengthens our local foodshed.

Come meet your gardening neighbors, share stories, swap tips, and leave with both new skills and new friends. Together, we’re planting seeds for a resilient Camden.

🌿 Mark your calendars: Sept 5 & 7, 2025. Let’s grow this.
