According to the nonprofit Rewiring America, 42 percent of the country’s carbon emissions come from our “kitchen table decisions.” Looking at how our homes use energy and where that energy comes from can yield great benefits: increasing comfort, and potentially lowering both energy costs and carbon pollution.

To get started on improvements in your home, check out recent programs that CamdenCAN helped organize in Fall 2025:

  • Home as an Energy System. Brian Robinson, a local Building Performance Institute Building Analyst with decades of experience, discusses how homes act as energy systems and ways to improve its performance. (1.5 hours)
  • Electrifying Your Home. John Luft, a solar specialist for more than two decades, talks about the why, when and how of electrifying your home—converting heating systems to rely on electricity. (Later programs will discuss how to finding local, renewable sources for that power.) (1 hour)
  • Understanding Your Utility Bill. Emily Rochford, with Maine Community Power Cooperative, helps interpret a standard Maine utility bill so you can better understand where your power is coming from and what the various charges are for. (1.5 hours)
  • Understanding Heat Pumps. Scott Libby, founder and owner of Royal River Heat Pumps, explains why heat pumps have become popular for home heating/cooling and for hot water heating, and what you should know about this relatively new technology. (1.5 hours)
